What
is
Saxon Phonics and Spelling?
Saxon Phonics and Spelling is a K-3
supplemental phonics program that is based around a
steady and incremental approach to developing new
skills with continual review. The K-2 programs are
geared toward phonemics awareness, phonics, and
spelling.
Saxon Phonics offers a 3rd grade program
that focuses on children maintaining their current
skill set and develop more advanced spelling skills.
The
Saxon Phonics and Spelling program are made up of
three main parts: warm up lessons, new incremental
skill building, and a continual review process. The
first section begins with a warm-up section that
uses various activities centered on alphabetizing.
The Saxon Phonics program includes the use of
sequenced activities in phonics and the use of flash
cards for reviewing letter recognition, sounds with
pictures, and spelling.
The
incremental lessons include phonics activities
combined with handwriting and
spelling rules. Here, your child will learn the
letter sound and become prepared for later
handwriting activities. Letter cards indicating a
vowels and consonants are used as well as spelling
cards indicating the sound the letter or combination
of letters makes.
Part three of the lesson uses practical application
and a continual review process for the acquired
skills. In part three of the Saxon Phonics and
spelling program there are a variety of activities
that reinforce the workbook and worksheet exercises.
The daily homework assignments helps you maintain a
pulse of your child's learning and retention level
in a documented format.
With the
Saxon Phonics and Spelling
program you'll get the strength of a multi-sensory
approach with the learning objectives clearly stated
for each lesson. The activity and the components
across each lesson are clearly linked. Also, with
the built-in assessment every 5th lesson
you will be able to easily monitor you child's
learning progression and be able to make any
necessary adjustment in your teaching timeline and
schedule.
