Craft projects for kids are a lynch pin for a child's
activity schedule. Homeschooling arts and craft project
are no different. And as parents I'm sure we
participated in our fair share. Craft projects do serve
an educational purpose as children engage in projects at
the very least they are picking up and refining vital
motor skills as the work with the different objects and
mediums. So, on the homeschool supply side you'll
obviously need various paint brushes, crayons, colored
pencils and pens, and various types of papers. Be sure
to have a designated place for each and that your child
immediately gets in the habit of what ever they take out
and use, they clean and put away when finished. This
will give them a sense of pride in their tools, and
their work area that will continue on.
As a parent, I rarely had to do much coaxing to get my
kids excited about working with all the colored paper,
paints, and pens. However, as a homeschool parent, since
you have the flexibility you should try tying some arts
and crafts projects into your everyday lesson plans and
curriculum. Find ways to include these projects into all
of your subjects such as reading, science, math, even
vocabulary.
Using craft projects in conjunction with
your other subject matter makes for great teaching tools
for you and great learning experiences for your
children. I found that when I did this, one of the
residual effects was that my children would want to
research and learn more about the subject so that they
could then construct and even add on to their craft
project that they had going on that coincided with the
subject or topic! What a wonderful learning loop this
would turn out to be.
Even if you're not a naturally creative person, the
ideas available and the supplies you'll need for your
homeschool craft projects are endless. Many
of them that you will be able to find even will give you
a list of essential supplies. Once you do a few of
these, I am sure that you will be able to get your
creative juices flowing. Just spread out the old sheets
for a work area, or if the weather is nice head outside,
so the clean-up doesn't detract from wanting to do the
activity, and have some fun and learn while creating.
