Homeschool
Teaching Tools
Teaching
tools can essentially be anything you can use to enhance
your child's learning experience. Not too profound, I know.
But, I think many parents (especially those just starting
out homeschooling) tend to overlook the obvious when it
comes to homeschool teaching tools in their teaching ‘tool
belt'.
Of course
teaching tools can and probably should include those that
first come to mind: games, software, packaged curriculums,
arts and crafts, etc. Too often though we don't see the
teaching tools forest for the trees! Everyday items around
the house are fantastic. Measuring spoons and cups, boxes
and bags..... how ‘bout this go through your junk drawer and
I'll be you can find at least one good homeschool teaching
tool. Of course, this may take some creativity and
imagination on your part and..... oh imagine that... there's the
bottom line for you! Be creative.
Creative use
of field trips around the community is great. If you are
internet active, I would encourage you to sign up for forums
and draw from the experience and the minds of others. No
need to totally reinvent the wheel when in comes to
homeschool teaching ideas and teaching activities.
Other
educational materials can include the oldie but goodies too!
One of the staples of my homeschool teaching tools was good
old flashcards. They provide immediate feedback to you as to
the level of your child's understanding. They can be used
for many types of educational learning games as well.
Today, with
the use of the internet you can find not only the homeschool
teaching tools themselves but many great ideas.
There are infinite number of software programs and learning
activities available. Audio cassettes and cd's are also a
popular choice these days. Audio material is a great way to
make time spent in the car educationally productive.
Children's
books are also a good source of personalizing the learning
experience and there are a large number of publisher and
software programs available for these. Use your creativity;
everyday items around the house are hidden treasures. On the
internet the homeschooling teaching tools are very abundant, join
homeschooling groups and forums. Always be on the look-out
for new and innovative ways to teach your child.
