Physical Development Of Preschool Age Child

Good physical fitness habits instilled early in your child are truly an investment for a lifetime. The physical development of a preschool age child is denoted by running, jumping, climbing, etc; high level motor skills.

Preschool age children who develop habits that encourage physical development tend to remain more active throughout their lives than those who do not. Getting into the fitness and physical development habit for your child begins with you.

As a parent you need to set the example of being physically active. Enjoy the physical activity with your preschooler. Physically active children will improve their self esteem and their confidence as well as reduce the risk of serious illness. So become a role model for your child's physical development even as early as preschool.

More Resources

A preschool age of physical development generally would include running, jumping, climbing, taking risks, and generally being attracted to outdoor activity equipment. It's about this time that the child would begin some finer dexterity and motor skills with their hands and fingers when it comes to handling smaller objects, grasping pens and pencils in a more traditional writing posture with their hands.

Kids at this age will love to spend time stacking, organizing, and taking part in general construction activities. From here you should begin to start to see some mild interest in games with balls or moving objects.

As a general rule of thumb for preschool aged physical development, a parent should see their child progress from general playing and exploring activities, to running, jumping, skipping to even more advance physical attributes of these with changing direction, side to side and even backwards mobility.

Any number of family activities can and should be incorporated into the physical development of a preschool age child. The key is to make them fun, laugh and enjoy. In this way you'll be establishing with your child that activities relate to quality family time which relates to having fun and trying new things. This will be the foundation that establishes good physical developmental habits that will return dividends for life.
