A Child's Learning
Style
There are a few axioms when it comes to learning
styles.
Every human has a learning style.
Every human has learning strengths and
weaknesses.
No learning style is better of worse than
any other.
Each learning style is as unique as the
personality itself.
It well known and documented that when a child's
learning style is identified, that child has a much greater chance to
succeed in their educational experience.
The question is, as a parent, how do you determine
what style your child is and what type of teaching methodology fits your
child's learning style. Well, let me rephrase that.... Do you know how you
child absorbs the information around them?
Action Item: take
your child to a park and do nothing but observe them. I
don't mean sit there with a silly grin on your face, I mean observe how
they interact and discover the environment around them. What is their
naturally preferred learning style? Now take a look around at all the
other children and try to pick out how they are learning. Even if you
don't know all the technical jargon, take notes, be perceptive to all
the types of learning styles you perceive.
Hopefully by now you are getting the jest of this
writing. Every child has their own learning style. Including yours. They
all have their own unique way of interacting with each other, playing,
resting, and otherwise socializing.
Knowing your child's learning style gives you the
greatest chance to succeed in teaching them. As you learn your child's
learning strengths you will also understand on how to lessen the affect
of their weaknesses. All of which gives your child the best chance to
succeed in life.
