Homeschool: Teach Your Children

So.... You don't have a teaching degree. How do you expect to teach your children?

Actually quite well thank you!

You see it when it comes to teaching your child, your life's experiences, dedication to your child's success, hard work, and the type of love that only a parent has for their child are the ingredients to successfully teaching your child at home. Not a teaching degree.

O.K... so I feel better about that. Where do I find homeschool curriculum and materials? Well.... Right on this website for starters! (My gosh! A shameless plug to be sure.)

There is a vast amount of homeschool curriculums and resources available from just about any direction you choose to go. Traditional text books, online curriculums, packaged software, and the people homeschool resources themselves are great. A lot of experience out there to pull from. There are a lot of homeschool moms (and dads!) That can lend their advice and experience on what has worked and not worked for them.

I would suggest just starting out that you should get to know your child's learning style. One of my Favorite Freebies is the Free Personal Learning Styles Inventory, at HowtoLearn.com.  It's a quick and easy online test to help you figure out how you or your child learns best -- by seeing, hearing, or doing. It's a great place to pick up a bunch of great ideas, and it is also a great place just to get yourself started.

Another question that many have is how much time should I expect when teaching my children at home?  In my opinion, that can be answered a couple different ways. Your actual teaching time may not be as long as you think since you eliminate travel time to a school, also between classes and your teaching energies are focused on one or maybe just a few children.

Having said that, I am not including your preparation time, or your organization and set up time that you have when teaching your children at home. This really depends on your level of organization and all that you have on your plate. One thing is certain though, each year you will bet more efficient with your teaching and organization and your time will be less burdened.
