The first thing I suggest you do is buy a couple of good homeschool books or check them out at the library on basic homeschooling or
getting started homeschooling.
Don't worry about getting too much information early on just start with the basic thoughts and research.
Make sure you pick up a curriculum resource guide as you do your research. From there, continue to research as you can on the Internet. Simply type the word homeschooling, homeschool curriculum, homeschool information, homeschool software, homeschool materials, etc... into a good search engine, like Google.com. Then check out the links that look interesting to you.
At this time just do a quick overview of the site. Remember we are just getting started. If the site looks like it offers a wide variety of resources, is well organized, and appears to have plentiful information, just bookmark the site for now in a ‘Homeschool' favorites folder. Continue to do this and even begin to categorize your findings in your favorite's folder for quick and easy reference later. Soon you will have more than enough information on how to get started homeschooling.
Be sure to talk with other people who have been homeschooling. The homeschooling community is a wonderful resource. As you peruse the internet check some of the many homeschooling forums, many of them have groups set up just for those who are just getting
started homeschooling.
Do you personally know anyone who homeschools? Homeschoolers love to share their passion for their families with others. Don't forget to ask them about support groups available in your area. The more homeschooling friends the better!
You may be able to find out about your state's laws concerning homeschooling from some of your new friends. If not, that information is relatively easy to find.
We have an overview of the various
state's
homeschooling laws here on this website. They will also be able to
get you started in the right direction.
