As a
homeschooling parent working with your child throughout their educational
process has been both challenging and exciting. Earning their homeschool high school
diploma will offer the child enormous freedom and flexibility in
which to explore subject matters to a much deeper level than they would in a
traditional classroom.
Getting the high school diploma at home works directly with the child's
interests that they have developed to this point in their educational life
cycle. Because the child is working on subjects that they are truly interested in the time goes by quickly without
that sense of drudgery of just trying to make it through to the next unit or
chapter in a book. And, as a parent you have the flexibility to choose and
direct your child's learning and motivation in a much more natural direction
for them.
One
of the most rewarding aspects of homeschooling high school aged children was
that since I had been homeschooling my kids for so long by the time they
reached high school age we had achieved an unbelievable ability to
communicate openly and honestly with each other. By now, both myself and my
kids had a firm understanding of what their interests and educational goals
were and we were able to really tailor the educational process for them.
Another really neat and gratifying aspect to see was their overall
confidence, self esteem, and moral compass that my kids had developed over
the years. This made the high school homeschooling process much easier for
me to define and employ for them. I became much more of a facilitator and
enabler and even a partner in my kids high school education.
Seeing
your kids get their homeschool high school diploma is such a uniquely
rewarding experience. Knowing that your guidance, teaching, and love through
the years to this point is now going to be guiding your child throughout the
rest of their life is a bit frightening to be sure! But, I assure you, there
is no better feeling.
