Organizing Your Homeschool Materials

There are certain times during the course of the year that I mark on my calendar that tell me it's once again time to get organized. Not my favorite thing to do, but as a homeschooler, I am in charge of all things homeschooling including the organization.

Always take a couple of times of year out to evaluate and organize your homeschool curriculum that you may be using. Does it work at all.

Are you covering the topics at the right times of the year to make them more meaningful? Is it still current with what your child is learning or what you have planned for your child to learn. If not, rid yourself of the old curriculum.

Along the lines of your curriculum and how it ties in, take sometime to organize your homeschool schedule. Not just at the yearly or unit level but your daily schedule as well. Make sure that your units are presented at a time of year that makes sense if applicable. Think about your daily schedule and what works. For example is math first thing in the morning the best time or would your local community history be better in this time slot.

More Resources

One of the first tasks on my list is organizing my homeschool..... well actually decide what I want to keep of all my child's homeschooling work they have done.

Tough decisions to be sure when you have to make a decision to toss out any of your child's homeschool work. But you can't keep it all. So decide what you want to frame, scrapbook, or otherwise keep and get rid of the rest. A clue when you've kept too much..... when you have to organize that which you already have organized!

Get out your homeschool supply list and bring it up to par. Don't have a homeschool master supply list...... I guess now would be a good time to get one started. Using your homeschool calendar of events is helpful here.

The key is to always have certain times that you take the time to organize a homeschool. If you have quarter breaks, semester type breaks, holiday breaks, vacation breaks...... whatever comes naturally..... but take the time to do at least two activities..... Organize and evaluate.
