What, why, how, when, is it legal, can I, should
I.... am I qualified? How to start homeschooling my children? What will everyone think
of this? Then your mind swirls back to the beginning in an endless loop
as you seriously consider beginning to homeschool your children.
Let me tell you this and know this forever.
Homeschoolers are as varied as the families and the backgrounds of which
they come from. You will be no different. They come from all parts of
the globe all financial stratus.... From everywhere and the numbers are
growing.
About the only credential you really need is a
strong sense of responsibility, motivation, and desire for your child to
get the best possible education that you can give to them. With this,
your homeschooling beginning will get off to a good start and
remain on course.
Some homeschooling children have never spent one
day in the traditional school while many others have been taken out. The
reasons for homeschooling are vast. Many families just have the strong
desire to nurture their family values and spend more time together as a
family while having complete control over what type of education their
children receive. Each family is different and each child within
each family is different when it comes to beginning to homeschool.
Without doubt starting to
homeschool is a bit scary. It's a feeling we all have experienced. By
now you should understand that if anything homeschooling is not static.
It is constant practice. Children change as they grow older. Their
interests
become more defined and so do their goals.
If you have decided to take your child out of a
traditional school setting as we did.
The one piece of advice that I could give would be
to just relax for awhile before you start homeschooling. In
homeschool vernacular this is known as “deschooling time”. And not
just you I refer to but your kid(s) as well.
Also, it's very typical for new homeschoolers to
feel the need for a more strict schedule. Much like that of a
traditional school. However, over time I think you will learn to enjoy
the flexibility and the improvisation of the homeschool schedule and in
time let go of the “school at home” mentality.
Don't sweat the small stuff when you first wonder
How to
start homeschooling. Just know in time that both you and your
children will reach a certain rhythm in your schedules and you
homeschool life. Everyone does and you will too.
