The education of every child continues as he grows in age, from being in pre-elementary, to elementary, to high school and finally to college. With the higher learning that a child must obtain comes the demand of a better school to go to. This is where the uncertainties of parents arise. With a child educated at home through homeschooling programs, will they be able to get the same opportunity given to those children whose educational lives were spent on various public and normal schools? The question now is – where does your child belong, to a homeschool or to college?
Apparently, these fears were chased away when there were two homeschooled boys who were admitted to Harvard University. Gaining admission to a degree program at Harvard does not need a high school diploma. There are colleges whose main concern is the knowledge acquired and the behavior that is developed in the life of a homeschooled child rather than their high school diplomas. Actually, there are also colleges whose preferences are homeschoolers because of the richness and diversity they carry along to their college life. So, you see, homeschooling and college could possibly coexist!
Requirements for admission to college do vary in every college and university. While there are college schools requiring a child’s appearance for the SAT, there are just others that need a diploma of general equivalence. There are also some who do not bother about tests or examinations. The criterion really depends on the college where you would like to be admitted. College courses do not actually require any high school diploma or special training. That’s what makes homeschooling and college possible.
Indeed, you cannot do away with anxious parents who are trying to send their children to high school after those years of homeschooling them. It is simply because they are alarmed that their children may be denied with entrance to colleges and universities. Fear no more, for college admissions are accessible to all individuals who are educated, irrespective of where they were educated – at home or at a public school. Again, homeschooling and college can coexist. Now, there is nothing you should fear about your child not being able to pursue his or her college degree.
